NURTURE- Upcycled Plastic Objects
I would come across a lot of discarded chips packets lying on the roadside, and in the dustbins and There is some beauty I found in the colors they had. In a moment o serendipity, an idea of a woven fabric that can be used to make colorful storage and carrying accessories automatically came to my mind. As I always do with any exciting idea that comes across me, I started the experimentation. I started by making an only-plastic and only-heat-lamination bag. In the first attempt, I was unsuccessful. But it surely gave me an understanding of the material. I figured out that top layer is not heat- laminate-able. In the second attempt, I decided to combine it with HDPE form discarded packaging of appliances. It worked out well and I could achieve a satisfactory result. Once the woven fabric was ready, I made it into a series of objects.
Nurture Unisex Tote bag is a unisex bag which appeals to me for its ease of use- single compartment, dump-and-go type, easy access to objects due to its very wide opening, few pockets on the inside wall to keep small items (so that they don't get lost in the depth and darkness of the bag, extra big steps capable of making the bad bearable on the back, like a backpack when needed (like riding a bike)
Nurture Macbook Sleeve is about exploring the ideas of making an all plastic version of an existing laptop sleeve design I have been using for almost 3 years.
Nurture harddrive pouch, zipper pouch, and mini pouch are a set of simple objects where the idea was to make familiar objects of purpose using this plastic fabric. These objects are the ones that have appealed to me and I wanted to use them myself.
WHERE IS THE PLASTIC COMING FROM?
Chips packets plastic- All the colorful plastics used for this collections come from the packaging of snacks which have been found lying around on the road, or in the dustbin. Some of them were even donated by people around me and the rest were from the personal consumption of the snacks. The multiple layers of different plastics and coating of resin which make the packaging puncture proof, airtight and moisture resistant also make it non-recyclable.
Chips packets from roadside, and dustbins, and from people and myself
HDPE Plastic- The clear plastic that was used to provide stiffness to the chips plastic and well as to heat-laminate with the woven sheet has been taken from the plastic which comes as a packaging of appliances like refrigerator, or AC.

HOW IT IS MADE?
Work in progress. Stay tuned.
