Newspaper for seating, sensory conflict and the

resulting pleasant surprise

It was during a classroom project which I took in Berin during my exchange semester where I explored the concept of using paper for making a stool. I could not take the concept to a fully functional prototype within the time frame of the course. I decided to work on this concept further and hence took this the topic of my design thesis at NID. This stool is one of the outcomes of the three months of experimentation where I explore newspaper and magazine, transforming the material in various ways to make a variety of stools.

It is an experimental design concept where the main objective was to explore and the process was driven by the curiosity about the material, and the process, and not by the problem the design is expected to solve

To read more about the concept of sensory conflict which is evoked by the idea of newspaper furniture, refer to my thesis project here.
